Using an actual project, here's how the design process typically works:

FIRST, Cynthia visits the site and creates a wish list filled with the garden owners desires. Her design is actually inspired by the wants and needs of the client as well as the property itself.

THEN, Cynthia creates a unique courtyard garden design which incorporates a new stone path complete with a two-tiered fountain. The design specifications offer a detailed list of plant materials, garden elements, horticultural considerations, and project budgeting.

THE GLORIOUS OUTCOME delighted both Sylvia and her husband. The project took 2 weeks to open up beds, build the walk and circular courtyard, and plant the gardens.

SYLVIA’S COURTYARD GARDENS

DESIGN CONCEPT: A colorful courtyard garden will be created using various evergreen shrubs and perennials. A brick path, complete with a circular brick landing containing a two tiered fountain, will be the focal point of the garden. Two weeping trees, a snow fountain cherry and a weeping hemlock will mirror the fountain in their form. A long path of lavender will grace the brick walk. A matching cast stone bench will bed centered in front of a hedge of Korean lilac to offer a social area and a spot to stop and “smell the lilacs”.

The lamppost will be surrounded by flowers which thrive in the hot sun including two spectacular Japanese tree peonies. The left corner of the house will be softened by a doublefile viburnum. A berm will be created to highlight the weeping hemlock which will be underplanted with a ground cover of ladies mantle and red/bronze microbiota shrubs.

PRICING:
Plants
$(price) plus tax

Cast Stone Fountain, bench and balls on pedestal
$(price) plus tax

Planting labor at $(price) per hour. Planting usually runs 25-30% of the materials cost.

Other considerations:
We recommend composting the planting at $(price). We prefer to use compost instead of mulch as it improves the soil and gives dramatic results in the second years growth. We also suggest removing the front hedges and returning this to lawn.

The stone work is being priced. We recommend a precast antique brick to coordinate with the house and the cast stone elements that make up the design.
